My daughter has excelled in this school district and now has her choice of colleges around the country. If you are willing to work hard and take the tougher AP classes, the resources such as great teachers and great peers are there. The school is award winning in academic standards testing and the administration is very supportive. Sports and the band are also very high achieving and active.

Northwest has a really great marching band program. It continues to grow every year, thanks to it's director Brian McMath.

I am a student who has just moved to Northwest High School. I have found, in my couple months of being here that Northwest has a very challenging environment, which is a good thing, but sometimes whether their goal is getting awards or achieving a high level of student satisfaction and education.

I am a recent graduate of Northwest High School and was an athlete in three sports. I found that the coaches checked on the grades of their athletes and academics to be made a priority. The teachers were willing to work with students, but they also expected students to grow through their high school years to develop good work ethics; so that student's would be better prepared for success in college and the work place. I feel like the challenging classes and teacher expectations have made me a better student and well prepared for college. I hope that this does not change for future students.

Our family settled here in Greensboro after 20 years of moving due to my husband's Naval Career. We have had our children in many public schools across the country. We are extremely happy with the high level of education our children have received at this school. It is a high performing school, where the parents, staff, and community all work together to give the students a great education which is not limited to just academics. There is a wide verity of clubs and activities available to the students. Although it is not a perfect school, the students, parents and the staff are constantly looking for ways to improve the school environment, enhance the academic offerings and make each child feel valued and important

Most of these students are right on track for college and parent involvement and discipline are respected

Northwest High School has been a huge disappointment to my family. It is supposed to be a 'School of Excellence', however the only thing the teachers are concerned with seemes to be making the award and their bonuses. They have no patience with the students and the discipline is a joke. I personally attended NWHS many years ago and it was a great school. Too many students currently enrolled, and I believe they have a zero tolerance. They don't seem to be concerned about the entire well-being of the children... only the academic portion. Also, the sports are a joke. Only if you are top notch and have played on a school team before, or if your parent is constantly involved, will you ever make a team. Good luck if you choose to send your child there.

Those who want more diversity at Northwest should lobby the school board for open enrollment county-wide where students could choose the school they wish to attend. However, preference would have to be given to those living in the NW schoool district based on the attendence zones. Surely people don't want to introduce busing to achieve this diversity.

I'm not a parent, but a student at NWGHS. Personally, I don't believe that the diversity issue at Northwest is the reason for any problems at the school. The problem I see is that there is no stable authority at the top of the school. We've had three principals during my four years at NW. I think as soon as a leader is stable at the top, NW will rise to the top of Guilford County. The teachers are great, some are even up for national awards, and many are getting through the national boards. The coaches at NW stress academics. I have lettered in two sports while in high school and both coaches kept a close eye on the teams grades. They are also very supportive of players new to the sports they coach, and are always willing to help players at practice. Parents are the blood of the school.
