Northwest High2

Littleton, NC | Halifax County

I currently attend Northwest halifax Highschool, and i can honestly say a turn around has happened. Less fights are present, and more students are starting to turn around and chagne theri act. This is NOT the best school in the world no,and yes our funding is poor. This doesn't make up a school, we have an inspiring principal who has a passion for the bettering of things. I can honestly say that Northwest is a life changeing school, everything had improved and since my two years of being here I can treuly say that depressing school has turned into a place I do not mind waking up on teh weekdays for. Keep up the work Dr. Bradely and i promise I will keep my part up as well.

I went to the school about 3 years ago and i can say that i hated this place with a passion. It is one of the depressing places you could have ever attended and i mean the atmosphere itself was the depressing part. Many of the teachers will not fail students and someone else goes behind them and passes students.

Northwest Halifax High School is a school of distinction, it is better than any other high school like Southeast Halifax High School I shall say. I had plenty of cousins to attend and one is graduating this coming June. At Northwest, it is a lot of gangs, attitude in students and there are some teachers that like for the students to do the work themselves in which I personally do not like about the educational perspective. Therefore, tries to do their best in to keeping their students engaging. I do like to mention at this high school between administration, parents, and teacher there is a lack of communication between the three. for example, today the students and teachers just found out we had to do a Writing task and the whole school didnt know anything about it.

i am currently a sophomore at NWHS, and i think this school is the worst school you can go to. The principle (Mr. Rountree) is doing all he can to make this a better school. If i could leave i would, another school i would attend is Altholton High in Coulibmia, MD !!

I'm currently a freshman @ NWHS and it is just plain ridiculous!!!!!! But i give it to the teachers, they are doing very well but they can't teach children who don't want to learn....The environment would be great if the peers weren't so bad....NWHS is just a school i advise no one to go to....I even wish I could leave...

I am a senior in the graduating Class of 2008. This year had been a turnaround for Northwest. Our new principal has a firm demeanor and is serious about turning the school around. There teachers at my school are great. It's majority of the students who come to school. They don't come to school with an attitide to learn. They just come to socialize. I went to Northwest I am now on my way to NC State. You an become successful coming out of this school. It is not as bad as people make it. I believe the new principal will make great changes.

I currently attend NWHS. I am a sophomore, and I know a little bit about the school in general. I agree with the comment about the school being out of control.

Northwest High School need a lot of help. The safety and discipline of the school is very sad. The students are in control in stead of the staff. That to me is ridiculous. The food is not acceptable and the quality is not enough. Northwest could really use a lot of help. Some of the teachers don't know what they are teaching and could careless about the students.

I graduated from northwest in 06 and I think it is a good school in a way. I'm not saying anything bad about the school it just the fact that it could be better. For example the teacher could do a much better job in providing adequate education to the students and make sure the get the best education possible to give to the students.

Well, I am a former student (graduate 05) and I think that the teachers are great but they can only do so much to help when they have no support from their leaders. Teachers knows more of whats best for the students than the leaders do (considering the fact that they spend more time with us). I feel like during my last 2 years of highschool, too much attention was being focused on uniforms and discipline over small things rather than focusing on what students are really there for...education! I do have to say that intervention programs are off the hook and opens many doors for alot of students such as Gear-Up, LEAD, Upward Bound, AG, TATU, etc. And not to forget that Northwest also has the best band in the land with the best teacher/director in the county. Parents, the band keeps kids out of trouble too. Aggie Student!

Northwest Halifax High School is a school that needs a lot of help. I have been both a parent and employee of the school. Until there is a PRINCIPAL that understands the students, staff and the community, the school will continue to be one that is low performing. The school is not known for academic success but more for cultural activities. It seems that the Central Office is not very aware of the problems that the school has. The parental support is a lot to be desired. Parents say one thing but do another and the students follow suit with their parents.

Northwest Halifax needs more improvement. The parent involvement is poor and the environment is not at its best. Academic programs are okay but could be better to have students more prepared for (hopefully) college. The school need some Joe Clarks who aren't afraid of the students but care if they learn (but its still up to the students to do that). Parent, teachers, and students need to get more involved together to make it a better school to learn. Also, K9 dogs should be on campus sometimes for drug searches. If the county had enough money I suggest more extracurricular activities at the school like: swimming, tennis, golf, etc.

I have worked with this school on a professional level and have found that there are several major issues that need to be addressed. The school lacks in supervision and leadership, programs for children with disabilities and has gang problems... The school has little control over the students and allow the children the leave the campus or kicks them out for any behavioral problems. The overall ability of the school is poor and the state should monitor it better.

Northwest halifax high school is a great school for children to go to learn. The teachers are awesome and they do their best to keep the students in line. The principal is doing a great job on working with the students there at Northwest. I went there up to my 11th grade year. I was doing an good job there the teachers made sure I stayed focus on my work and made sure I understood the work that was giving to me. I've never had any problems out of that school with anyone there. I just want ed to let the other parents know that Northwest halifax high school is a great place for your child or children(s) to learn.
